A golden discovery and a golden friend!

An incredibly exciting and perhaps formative moment was when I was 10 years old. My best friend was nine. We were going through some tapes at home and came across a seminar by Bryan Tracy called the Phoenix Seminar. My father was probably given the tape at a business seminar and it had got put into the box we were going through.

I don’t know if you’ve heard any of Bryan Tracy’s stuff but he is a time management guru and hearing the tape literally changed our lives! It was like finding a treasure chest! It was only one in a series but what we heard was seriously unbelievable.

We sat their on my bedroom floor as Bryan talked about visualisation and positive thinking.

These weren’t concepts we were being taught in school!

He gave the famous example of visualising a free parking space before you arrive at your destination! He spoke about goal setting and the remarkable power of attraction.

The ideas were mind blowing and even though we were very young we were spell bound. A few years later as a teenager I ordered the whole set online. I remember when it arrived in a leather-bound cover. It was incredible!

What is truly amazing is that friend who I sat on my bedroom floor with all those years ago (and who is still my closest friend) studied psychology, and now has become a time management guru himself!

He lives abroad so I don’t see him as much as I would like, but when I last spent some quality time with him a few months ago he was so inspiring. Everything he said came from this deep, real, positive core.

He spoke about the importance of fulfilling your dreams and ambitions and focusing on developing the skills and never giving up!

There are friends and there are friends and I feel so lucky to be connected to someone like that.

Inspiration

Looking for inspiration I typed the word “inspiration” into YouTube! I began to watch some great movie moments with yes, incredibly inspiring speeches! :)

There was a video of basketball players talking about their careers. Their passion, dedication, tenacity and focus which was truly amazing! I was inspired!

The best speech I came across was from a Steve jobs at Stanford. He stated so eloquently that in life you have got to follow your curiosity and intuition and live close to your dreams. He himself dropped out of college and started going to courses he simply wanted to go to! He went to a calligraphy class for no other reason than he simply wanted to learn about it!

He discovered what makes great typography, and the how artistically subtle the form is. It had no practical application in his life, but then ten years later when he and a team were designing the Mackintosh computer it all came back to him! He ensured that it would have beautiful typography, the right spacing etc!

In life you got trust in your gut, God, Karma...because you can only connect the dots looking back.

When I left the career I was trained for, and had worked in for ten years, it was a step into the unknown. Yet when I look back now over the last year it has been the most creative period in my life!

I’ve got involved in an Organic farm which feels so nourishing, baby clothes which are gorgeous, and now blog2book! Each one is either a fun, beautiful or an inspiring project!

There is a natural uncertainty wedded with an excitement in a period such as this, but as Steve Job said, you have to find in life what you love(both with a career and with a partner) and only then will you be truly satisfied because you will be doing what you believe is great work.

If you haven’t found yet what you love, keep looking, for with all matters of the heart you will know when you have found it, and with all great things, it will get better and better as the years go on, so don’t settle.

Blog2book and the creative flow!

Last week I went to my friend’s house, Gary, and noticed a huge book with a beautful bound cover. I was curious and took it off the book shelf. It was full of four years of his study notes. I was amazed!

The first version of the blog2book website had just been completed that weekend and even though I had been to my friend umpteen times this was the first time I had noticed it!

He explained that he had decided to collate all his study notes to have them in one place, had got letters from his lecturers to put at the front, and bound the book! It was beautiful! And the timing of my discovery was superb!

It was 3 months since I had stood in the line in Starbucks and thought hard about what business venture would be really enjoyable... what would be a labour of love? I love blogging and had thought about turning my blog into a book and then the idea came to me!

In life, when you are on the right track and your creative juices are flowing , these kind of ‘coincidences’ happen. If you believe in a higher force then you feel it is guiding you! If you believe in karma then it a sign that things are connected and flowing!
